Shark Attack in San Diego / scualo bianco!!! (UPDATE: shark in italian is squalo not scualo) I don't think the sharks care how we spell it...

Uhhh...I was planning on going to go swimming in the ocean tonight or tomorrow morning...they are expecting a heat wave...but it looks like the beaches near our house will be closed to swimming till Monday since some dude got killed by a great white shark today. Yikes.

That is really scary! Do you ever swim that far from shore? Imagine being the swimmers that survived. I would flip out

No, i haven't been that far out...but I certainly could go out that far, and will at some point...I think I'd rather die of a shark attack than in a car accident (which is much more likely). Think of all the people we know that have died or almost died in cars or because of cars. It's rediculous.

by the way...I have a toy great white shark, or scualo bianco, that I received as a gift from the group of folks who I taught yoga to in Italy when I was there during the fall of 2005. I learned the italian word for great white shark my first week in Italy b/c I did a press release on the paper in Science about the finding that sharks were swimming back and forth from the southern tip of Africa and Australia. Before that, no-one was sure if sharks were going back and forth between those two scualo bianco breeding spots. What is that...across the Indian Ocean? I forget...
