Anza Borrego State Park (San Diego County, CA)
this was last saturday in Grapevine Canyon...one of the wild parts of Anza Borrego State park that is slated to get a huge six line transmission line running through it. SDG&E (owned by Sepre Energy) says the line will carry green and sustainable energy from Imperial county to San Diego. Others say the line is really meant to carry dirty electricity generated in Mexico from natural gas that is shipped in from god knows where up to LA. My guess is that there is a little truth to both.
but to me the real issue is whether we are willing to have a state park and federal wildlerness areas desecrated so that a for-profit company can earn a bunch of money and continue business as usual. What about getting serious about conservation? Once western san diego county is blanketed in solar panels and up to the gills in energy conservation measures...once this is all done and if there is a real need for more power, then lets look at alternatives (of which there are some that don't destroy protected wilderness). But until then, back the fuck away from our parks!!! The Sunrise Powerlink is a BAD IDEA!!!
